Blizzard of 2005
A true blizzard hit the northeast beginning the night of Saturday, January 22, 2005 into Sunday, January 23. This blizzard was second in snow total only to the one that hit Rhode Island in 1978 where 27.6 inches of snow was recorded at T. F. Green airport. |
Wind gusts around
40 to 60 mph occurred
with 23.4 inches of snow. On Block Island, RI gusts were
recorded up to 72 mph. Temperatures were 9 to 14 degrees with
below zero wind chills. As noted by this picture, the snow
was drifting around my car almost up to the window.
