NANA
MEETS JESUS
John
14:2-3 KJV
In
my Father's house are many mansions… I go to prepare a place for
you… I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where
I am, there ye may be also.
I grew up in West Virginia.
My father built our home between Grammy’s house (my
maternal great-grandmother) and my Nana and Granddaddy’s house
(maternal grandparents). I was always running to Nana’s. She
and I had a closer relationship than most kids have the
opportunity for. Nana was my favorite person. In addition to
making her wonderful potato soup and graham cracker pie, she was
always there for me-listening, giving advice, teaching me, and
just loving me.
Nana was truly the kind of lady we would all hope to be.
She lived as a good example.
She was hardworking, loving, and honest. She went to church
every Sunday. Her Bible and The
Upper Room were always beside her favorite chair.
On Monday, January 23rd, my mother called to
tell me that Nana had died. So I headed for West Virginia. There
my aunt told me the story of Nana’s last minutes.
My aunt and uncle were at her bedside when Nana suddenly
raised her hand up into the air. My aunt told her, “If you see
Jesus, reach up and take his hand. It’s okay to go with him.”
Three times Nana reached up. Then she put her hand down on the
bed, sighed, and passed away.
At the funeral home, I was pleased to see her looking like
the strong, healthy woman I knew so well.
As I looked at her lying
there, I felt like she was saying to me, “It’s okay. I’m in
heaven.” How I
treasure that comforting sign, a gift from God.
We know we will be together some day.
THOUGHT
FOR THE DAY: As believers, we are assured
of our
place in heaven. How I long to see the face of Jesus.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank you for sending
your Son to us so
that we may know you better and have the knowledge of our place in
heaven. Amen
