The hot-humid August weather had broken the previous night and on Saturday, August 23, 2003, the annual Gillett-Noonan Clam Boil was held in a tent on the front lawn of Fred Gillett's summer home on Narragansett Bay, Barrington, Rhode Island. It was a beautiful Saturday, sunny with a cool breeze off the bay.
