Community Volunteer Day Honoree

Betty Mason
War Memorial Hospital

One year ago, Betty Mason showed an interest in being a “greeter,” a new volunteer role at War Memorial Hospital. She initially planned to volunteer two days a week and another day if needed. Her pleasure in the work, and everyone’s satisfaction with her efforts, have expanded her volunteering to three to five days a week. The role as a greeter has been rewarding to Mason as well as vital to assisting patients and visitors to the correct areas of the hospital. As a greeter, she gets an opportunity to have a friendly encounter, and she is able to promote better communication with patients, visitors, other customers, and those in the waiting area. Mason has created a smooth flow for customers coming to register, and directs visitors to the elevatorand then to the nurses’ station for additional assistance. She welcomes all our customers with a big smile and warm heart.
