Phyllis Jean Corbin Smith, 68, of
Burkesville, Ky., died at her residence in Burkesville
on Thursday, February 16, 2006.
She was born in
Berkeley Springs on November 30, 1937, the daughter of
the late Robert and Mary Shade Corbin.
She was a
current member of the Burkesville City Council, a former
owner of Lusada’s Florist, protocol officer -- National
Defense University, a member of the Red Hat Society,
active in the Cumberland River Festival and other civic
affairs, and member of the tourism committee of the
Burkesville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce.
She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, retired Major
General Paul T. Smith, Burkesville; one son, Thomas C.
Hoffman, Waxahachie, Texas; one daughter, Mary K. Smith,
Golden, Colorado; two sisters, Eileen Barnhart and Irene
McFadden, both of West Virginia; grandchildren,
Specialist Sidney T. Hoffman, Private Matthew T.
Hoffman, Corbin L. Smith and Emery K. Smith.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one
brother, David Corbin, and four sisters, Ruth Sipes,
Alta “Peggy” Phillips, Mary Ellen Fox and Nancy Corbin.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 19, in
Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, Burkesville,
with Father Larry Gelthaus officiating. Burial was in
Burkesville Cemetery.
