R. George Rowland, Sr., 79 of Chesapeake [VA], passed away
Monday, October 17, 2016.
George served his
country in the United States Navy for 26 years, retiring
as a Master Chief Sonar Technician. He loved to travel
the world with his wife of 60 years, Sylvia. He enjoyed
his time at Lake Gaston with family, fishing, boating,
water skiing and making breakfast while wearing his
‘International House of PawPaw’ apron. He was a great
dad to his children and a super PawPaw to his
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and will be
greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory is his
wife and best friend, Sylvia; a son, Raymond G. Rowland,
Jr. and wife Jeannie; two daughters, Ann Elizabeth
Steeley and husband Glenn, Belinda Baker; ten
grandchildren, Ryan, Angie, Amber, Tim, George III,
Kelly, Matthew, Katie, Kevin, Ashlee; eleven
great-grandchildren and numerous other family members
and friends.
The family will receive friends at
Oman Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, October 20,
from 6 to 8 pm. A committal service will be held at 9 am
on Friday, October 21, at Albert G. Horton, Jr.,
cemetery. Following the committal, a celebration of his
life will be held at 11 am, at Great Bridge United
Methodist Church, with Rev. Tim Craig officiating.
